A multi state cooperative society registered under the Central Act cannot takeover a cooperative society registered under a State Act, held the Gujarat High court, early this week.

The Union Minister of agriculture multi state cooperative society while addressing the Consultative Committee meeting of his Ministry informed that the centre has already introduced the Multi state cooperative society Bill, 2000 in to replace the existing Multi state societies Act, 1984, providing for more functional and financial autonomous and democratic management of cooperatives.

Conversion of a multi state cooperative society into a - (1) A cooperative society may, by an amendment of its bye  laws, extend its jurisdiction and convert itself into a cooperative society: Provided that no such refusal of amendment of Bye-Laws in multi state cooperative society shall be valid unless it has been registered by the Central Registrar.
